Trees/Shrubs
Minimum Nutrient Recommendations Using Organic and Natural Plant Food Sources:
Key Nutrients:
Research in woody plant nutrition has shown that Nitrogen (N) is the element that yields the greatest growth response in trees and shrubs.
Nutrient Uptake:
Nitrogen (N) – High N fertilizers are generally recommended for feeding established woody plants.
Phosphorus (P) – Relatively low levels of P are required for established woody plants. Newer plants and/or transplanting require higher P levels to support root growth.
Potassium (K) – Supports leaf development and disease resistance.
Calcium (Ca) – Ca is needed in woody plants to support healthy growth.
Magnesium (Mg) – Required at relatively low levels — plays a role in leaf growth.
Sulfur (S) – This nutrient is critical for optimum N utilization.
