Fruits/Nuts
Minimum Nutrient Recommendations Using Organic and Natural Plant Food Sources:
Key Nutrients:
Nitrogen (N), Potassium (K) and Calcium (Ca) are the most critical nutrients, increasing growth, and improving fruit yields and quality.
Nutrient Uptake:
Nitrogen (N) – A significant proportion of N is used early season to provide good vegetative leaf growth, bloom and fruit set. High levels of N are deposited in fruit.
Phosphorus (P) – Relatively low levels of P are required, but it needs to be available throughout the season. P is particularly important during periods of new growth of plant tissue – e.g. when new roots and flowers are formed and during cell division in the developing fruitlets.
Potassium (K) – Peak K uptake occurs later than that of N. It is a key driver for yield but also has a major influence on fruit properties. More K is deposited in fruit than any other nutrient.
Calcium (Ca) – Large amounts of Ca is needed within the tree to support healthy growth. While only a small proportion of all Ca ends up in the fruit, this low concentration is critical to minimize storage quality problems.
Magnesium (Mg) – Is important in ensuring good growth, but at relatively low levels. It has a critical role to play in leaf growth and flowering with minimal fruit drop.
Sulfur (S) – Is usually targeted to influence fruit set and health.
